About BELOGIC

BELOGIC accelerates the large-scale deployment of battery-electric trucks in long-haul logistics by combining innovative logistic models with advanced digital tools and demonstrating that the cost of operating battery-electric trucks can be lower than operating with ICE vehicles. The project starts from a solid baseline analysis of current missions, barriers, and enablers, and co-designs new operational models with leading logistics service providers. These models are validated through advanced simulations and real-world demonstrations across Europe, covering diverse corridors, vehicle types, and mission profiles.

A portfolio of interoperable digital tools is developed and integrated into existing transport and fleet management systems, enabling efficient planning, relay operations, smart charging, and cross-border services. The demonstrations provide TRL 7–8 evidence of feasibility, while high-resolution data collection and impact assessment deliver robust insights for large-scale replication.

The main participants are 5 leading European logistics operators, who work together with OEMs, RTOs and software providers to ensure that its results translate into actionable deployment strategies, policy recommendations, and commercially viable solutions. By supporting the operations of BEVs with advanced digital tools, BELOGIC reduces the costs, improves the reliability, and cuts the emissions.

Objectives

Validate new logistic models for BEV-based long-haul transport.

Deliver next-generation digital tools to support BEV-operations in long-haul logistics using a standardised framework.

Test optimal BEV configurations for diverse European long-haul logistics operations.

Demonstrate a lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for BEV-based long-haul freight transport across Europe compared to diesel.

Deliver scale-up strategies for BEV deployment by mapping needs and operational requirements of Logistics Service Providers (LSPs) and shippers.

Concept

The BELOGIC (Innovative models and integrated digital tools for Battery Electric long-haul LOGistICs) project officially started on the 1st of May 2026. The project will run for 3 years and will contribute to the EU’s Green Deal, where the EU commits to be CO2 neutral by 2050.

In the BELOGIC project OEMs, LSPs and shippers, logistic platforms, digital tool developers and research partners will accelerate the large-scale deployment of battery-electric trucks in long-haul logistics by combining innovative logistic models with advanced digital tools and demonstrating that the cost of operating battery-electric trucks can be lower than vehicles with internal combustion engines. Large-scale pilots across Europe will demonstrate that BEV-based logistics can meet the demands of high-volume, time-sensitive freight operations.

Expected outcomes

  • Accelerated uptake of heavy duty BEVs across the EU through innovative logistics models.
  • Enhanced reliability and effectivity of the road freight systems enabled by the development and implementation of software tools for decision making.
  • Portfolio of real-life BEV operational demonstrations for long-haul and cross border operations with associated logistics models.
  • Enhanced understanding of stakeholder needs for integrating BEVs in logistics operations.
