Smart Freight Centre

Organisation Introduction

Smart Freight Centre (SFC) is a global non-profit organisation dedicated to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from freight transportation. Through its Fleet Electrification Coalition (FEC), SFC mobilises a global network of over 100 companies—including shippers, carriers, logistics providers, and policymakers—to track, reduce, and ultimately eliminate emissions from road freight.

FEC focuses on accelerating the adoption of zero-emission trucks by aggregating shipper demand, enabling large-scale procurement, and fostering collaboration across the ecosystem. By combining data-driven insights, industry partnerships, and real-world deployment projects, SFC supports the transition to net-zero logistics by 2050.

Why BELOGIC?

Smart Freight Centre participates in BELOGIC through its Fleet Electrification Coalition to accelerate the large-scale deployment of battery-electric trucks in long-haul operations. BELOGIC strongly aligns with FEC’s mission to overcome key barriers to fleet electrification, including high upfront costs, limited infrastructure, and fragmented stakeholder coordination.

The project provides a valuable opportunity to connect its demand aggregation approach—mobilising shipper commitments and enabling procurement—with real-world demonstrations across Europe. By contributing to BELOGIC, SFC ensures that lessons from pilot operations translate into scalable business models, bringing the market closer to total cost of ownership parity with diesel and enabling widespread adoption.

In addition, BELOGIC complements FEC’s global activities by providing deeper insights into long-haul use cases, digital tools, and operational optimisation. This reinforces SFC’s role in shaping practical pathways for zero-emission freight, supporting industry collaboration, and enabling informed decision-making across the value chain.

Involvement in BELOGIC?

Within BELOGIC, SFC contributes by analysing global best practices, benchmarking electrification strategies, and assessing results from a shipper perspective. The organisation supports impact assessments, contributes to understanding adoption barriers, and develops guidance for scaling up zero-emission freight solutions.

SFC also plays a key role in dissemination, ensuring that project learnings are translated into actionable insights for industry stakeholders and integrated into broader market initiatives.
